Santorum's blind support for what he think's is the official Israeli position on the Palestinian issue derives from the evangelical's view that a Jewish occupation of "Biblical Israel" is required to trigger the "End Times," and all that follows. Yes, binational states have such a record of failure. Take Canada, for example. And multinational states fare even worse. Just look at the United States and that whole concept of E pluribus unum. On the other hand ethnocentric states have such a record of success. Take Israel for example. In its quest for ethnic purity it has succeeded in stealing land, violating fundamental human rights, turning millions of Palestinians into the oldest and largest refugee population in the world, while rendering 1.2 million Palestinian Israelis, 20 percent of its population, into 2nd-class citizens who may be traded away like human chattel as part of a land swap to preserve ethnic purity. And in the course of enjoying the succes of ethnic supremacy, Israel has known more than 60 years of war and conflict and is now building a wall around itself, creating a ghetto of its own making. No wonder Rick Santorum and others who long for the days when the United States was a white Christian country identify so strongly with Israel.
